PV Going Green

April 15, 2020 — by Kelsey Kimball

Over the last year, we have made some exciting eco- friendly changes to our packaging! We are proud to say every style you receive from us in the mail comes in a biodegradable bag that you can bury in your backyard!

Our biodegradable bag journey, started eight months ago in July of 2019! Home composting takes about 12- 18 months, so the bags are well on their way to fully compost and give us peace of mind knowing we are doing what we can to decrease our footprint!

Once you receive your new PV goodies, there are three ways to compost, depending on local availability:

  • Curbside: If a city picks up curbside compost, they’ll have specific rules for what they accept.
  • Dropoff: If there’s no curbside composting option, people can check the Biocycle directory to find industrial facilities in their area.
  • At home: Compostable plastics need very high heat to break down in under a year. They should break down in home bins within 12-18 months with the right combination of heat, moisture, air, and volume. Cal Recycle has a great guide to home composting.

Want other ways to “Go Green” with us? Check out our Charity Bracelets that give back to environmental causes.

DIY Bath Bombs

April 14, 2020 — by Kelsey Kimball

It’s time to add a pop of color to your bath routine! With these DIY Bath Bombs, your bath aesthetic will look like it came straight from your Pinterest Board.

  • Baking Soda
  • Cornstarch
  • Citric Acid
  • Epsom Salt
  • Bath Bomb Mold
  • Preferred Essential Oils
  • Spray Bottle of Water
  • Preferred Color Mica

First, in a large bowl, mix 3 cups of baking soda, 1 1/2 cups of citric acid, 1 cup of epsom salt, and 1 cup of cornstarch. Make sure all the ingredients are mixed together well once they are in the bowl.

Now, it’s time to make this smell good! Drip your preferred essential oils throughout the bowl. Lavender is my favorite, so that’s what I used! How much you use is up to you, and how strong you want the scent to be.

Next, it’s time to mold the mixture to the right consistency. Spritz your spray bottle thoroughly throughout the bowl. The mixture should dampen to the point of when you squeeze a hand full of it, it sticks together. If it does not stick, it will not hold in the mold, so keep spraying water until it sticks.

Once the consistency is right, fill the bath bomb molds with the mixture. Pack the mixture as tight in the mold as it can be. Allow the mold to sit for at least 24 hours.

Once the molds have sat for at least 24 hours, take the bath bombs out of the mold and get your colors ready! This part can get messy, so you may want to lay some paper towels or newspaper out.

Once you are happy with how the colors look, you’re done! SO easy! Now it’s time for you to relax! Light some candles and put on your favorite music (I chose Harry Styles) 😍 and sit back!

For a color explosion, mix two of the bath bombs!

Rainbow Macrame DIY

March 25, 2020 — by Kelsey Kimball

The darker the storm, the brighter the rainbow! 🌈 Light up your day with this colorful DIY! It can be used as wall decor, a key chain, or make someone’s day and gift it to a friend!

  • Thick cotton cord
  • Thin cotton colorful cord
  • Craft wire
  • Scissors
  • Pins

First, measure how big you want the rainbow to be by cutting the thick cotton cord. The amount of colors and the size is completely up to you! I decided to use three colors and made it about the size of my hand.

Next, cut and tape the craft wire to shape each strand of the rainbow! The wire will keep the rainbow’s shape. Make sure the wire is cut with room left at the end. With the space at the end, fray the thick cotton cord edges.

Now, you take the colored cord and start wrapping each color around each individual strand. Start right above where you stopped fraying the bottom! At the end, you form a loop to knot it off.

In order to keep the different strands together, use the pins to stick through each cord. Do this across the entire rainbow to ensure the entire rainbow stays pressed together.

That’s it! 🌈 Hang your rainbow up in your room, place it on your desk or bedside table, or gift it to a friend! Stay tuned for more fun and easy DIY’s! πŸ’›

PV State of Mind: 5 Tips for Self- Care

March 20, 2020 — by Kelsey Kimball

Self- care has never been more important! It’s time to take some well deserved ‘me- time,’ PV fans! Here are 5 tips to do just that, all while rockin’ the newest PV styles, of course!

Tip 1: Use your spare time to journal! Life’s usual commitments may not be there right now, but that means it’s time to commit to yourself! Spend a few minutes each day to reflect on what we have to be thankful for.

Tip 2: Take advantage of this at- home time by snuggling up to all of your furry friends. They are always there for us in times of need, and now we have time to return the favor!

Tip 3: Make sure you are still getting a daily dose of Vitamin D! Eat your breakfast in your backyard, or go on a walk! Sunlight is known to increase serotonin, which directly affects your mood and feeling calm and focused.

Tip 4: We can’t stress this enough! YOGA! Yoga is known to improve respiration, energy and vitality. 10 minutes of yoga or meditation in the morning can make all the difference on your day!

Tip 5: Be patient with yourself during this time! We’re all dealing with completely unchartered territory, so give yourself the time you need to create a new temporary norm.

Valentine’s Day DIY Floral Soap Bars

February 13, 2020 — by Kelsey Kimball

Smell good, feel good! ❀️ That’s how the saying goes, right?! This Valentine’s Day, feel your best for your guy, or the girls, with these DIY floral soap bars! Whether its true love, or self- love, they are the perfect gift for him/ her, or yourself!

  • 1 Soap Mold (silicone preferred)
  • 2 lbs of Goat’s Milk Melt & Pour Soap Base
  • Essential Oils
  • Dried Flowers

First, cut the goat’s milk into small cubes and put them into a microwaveable safe bowl.

Next, microwave the goat’s milk base for 30 second intervals, stirring it until it is melted . I ended up doing this 3 times, but it will vary depending on your microwave, so just keep an eye on when yours is melted!

Then, add the essential oils to the melted goat’s milk base. I ended up using the lavender to match the flowers I used, but this is where you can be creative on what smells you wish to create!

It’s time to pour the melted soap into the silicone mold! To assure the flowers are spread out across the entire bar, drop the dried flowers into the mold as your pour. Then, let the mold sit for 2 hours.

That’s it! You now have soap bars that are almost too pretty to use! The perfect gift to pair with our Heart On my Sleeve pack πŸ’•

#MyPuraVida Charity Campaign

October 1, 2019 — by Kelsey Kimball

From September 23 – September 27, we shared why our content creators, fans, and members of the Pura Vida team wear their Pura Vida Charity Bracelets using the hashtag, #MyPuraVida! Read on to hear their stories!

Chelsey Bishoff wearing the Mental Health Awareness Bracelet

#MyPuraVida is important to me because health isn’t all about your diet plan, your work out routine and making sure you get all your steps in that day. Health is about taking care of yourself and making sure you show yourself love every day. It took me a while to realize your mental health is just as important as your physical health. It is so incredibly easy for me to push myself passed my limit, become overwhelmed and not allow time in my daily routine to just B R E A T H E. Giving my personal life attention by letting myself actually relax for once, recollect and regain perspective on things is a game changer. We have to take care of ourselves and acknowledge that it is 1000% okay to not be okay. Reach out to a friend, talk about things on your mental. Let it out! Because the sooner we talk about it, the easier it is to let go. I encourage you all to take time out for yourself this week. It’s okay. You deserve it.” – @chelseybishoff, wearing the Mental Health Awareness Bracelet πŸ’š

Gg Rae wearing the Anxiety Disorder Awareness Bracelet

β€œI wear #MyPuraVida Anxiety Disorder Awareness Bracelet because I am passionate about supporting charities that help individuals experiencing these uncontrolled emotions. Growing up I’ve always struggled with my own depression & anxiety, knowing that it is definitely not something easy to go through. I believe that mental health should be acknowledged more and talked through; helping everyone who are experiencing these emotions, that they are not alone. I honestly love my bracelet with my whole heart & wear it everyday which always reminds me to push through when I’m struggling with these emotions. πŸ’•β€ – @ggrae wearing the Anxiety Disorder Awareness Bracelet

Nesrin Danan wearing the Depression Awareness Bracelet

“I wear #MyPuraVida because depression is something i’ve dealt with since i was a teen. It comes in waves, and each wave is different. Learning healthy ways to manage and float above it has been a tough experience for me, but one of the most important things that helped me was realizing i wasn’t alone and there are so many people and resources out there willing to listen.” – @blackprints wearing the Depression Awareness Bracelet

Marla Fay wearing the NEGU: Never Ever Give Up Bracelet

#MyPuraVida is extremely important to me because it is a daily reminder to never ever give up. Two close friends of mine passed away at a very young age due to cancer. Briana Vega and Patrick Battle were two of the most positive and loving people I knew. They never ever gave up and always looked toward the positive, even in the hardest of situations. Wearing this bracelet reminds me to keep their spirit alive, fight hand in hand with others, and to never ever give up, for them and for everyone.” – @marlafay wearing the NEGU: Never Ever Give Up Charity Bracelet πŸ’™

Maddie Perry, wearing the Breast Cancer Awareness Pack

“My grandma passed away from Breast Cancer when I was nine and, ever since then, raising awareness to help the cause has always had a special place in my heart. When I wear #MyPuraVida bracelets, I’m flooded with the sweetest memories from the time I was able to spend with her and I also feel empowered to help encourage and support those still fighting the disease. So many moms, sisters, grandmas, daughters (and even brothers, dads, sons and grandpas!) are fighting everyday and when I wear these bracelets, I’m reminded to send up a prayer and help support in any way I can.” – @maddieperry123, wearing the Breast Cancer Awareness Pack, Breast Cancer Awareness Charm, & Breast Cancer Awareness Original.

Why do you wear your Pura Vida? Post and share your story for a chance to be featured using the hashtag,#MyPuraVida.
