As much as we love to have fun in the sun, winter has its perks too! Like drinking hot cocoa, snuggled up by the fire, and watching the snow fall. We encourage you to get creative with this DIY customized coffee mug! You can create one for yourself, or for a friend. These also make great gifts! So many possibilities…so get creating!
Heres how you can create your custom coffee mug:
Supplies:
Oil based Pen (look for one at your local craft store. They usually run around $4 in price depending where you buy it from)
A blank mug (bought from a store or thrift stores usually have some cool ones!)
Rubbing Alcohol
Art Tape *optional*
Directions:
1) Think of the design you want to create on your mug. Wipe down the mug with rubbing alcohol to get rid of any grease and any dirt (especially if it was purchased from a thrift store). You can practice your design on paper before hand to get a feel of what you will create.
2) Begin to draw out your design on your blank mug. You can either free hand, or use a pencil and the art tape to guide your design.
3) When you are done drawing on your design, wait a minimum of 8 hours before putting it in the oven. (Oil sharpies wait 72 hours, other oil based pens 24 hours.) This allows your design to set.
4) Put your mug in a cold oven (do not preheat) and bake for about 40 minutes at 375 degrees F. Allow them to cool completely in the oven before removing them.
All mugs are safe to hand washed with cool water. NOT guaranteed safe in dishwasher.
