May 15, 2015 — by Griffin Thall

Sure it’s always good to catch up with friends and family, but when’s the last time you checked in with yourself? It’s time to have a conversation with yourself to see how YOU are doing by asking these 10 questions:

1) How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
2) If you had the opportunity to get a message across to a large group of people, what would your message be?
3) If not now, then when?
4) Have you done anything lately worth remembering?
5) Who do you love? What are you doing about it?
6) Do you celebrate the things you do have?
7) When was the last time you tried something new?
8) What is the difference between living and existing?
9) Time or Money?
10) If you could do it all over again, would you change anything?

May 14, 2015 — by Griffin Thall

Revered as the birth place of surfing and Aloha spirit, Waikiki is a tourist hot spot for any and all beach lovers. Located on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, Waikiki is the perfect spot for people watching, world-class shopping and boasts the best views of the iconic Diamond Head.

What to Do
Rent a SUP or surfboard and paddle out into the middle of this giant shallow bay. You may even see a turtle or 4! Don’t wanna get sandy? Then get spending as you stroll along Kalakaua Avenue. With everything from high-end handbags to bikinis on a budget, it’s a shopaholics dream!

Where to Eat & Drink
Sip on a Mai Tai from the infinity pool at the Sheraton Waikiki which overlooks the entire turquoise bay then eat, drink and spread aloha at an evening luau.

Where to Stay
For the most authentic island experience rich in Hawaiian culture and history, stay at the Moana Surfrider, the very first hotel built on Oahu in 1901.

Where to Party
Hop on a sunset catamaran cruise (drinks and panoramic ocean views included) then head to The Beach Bar at the Moana Surfrider for seaside cocktails and more uninterrupted views of the big blue.

6 Ways To Unleash Your Creative Genius

May 12, 2015 — by Griffin Thall

Creative-Header1.jpg

Being creative is one thing, but having the power and control to turn your creativity on and off is gift. Here are 6 ways to unleash your creative genius:

1) Try new things. When we learn something new like how to skateboard or play the guitar, we use a different part of our brain. This is a huge part of being creative; having the ability to think outside of the box and in alternative ways.

2) Travel. Change up your surroundings and you’ll automatically begin to see the world in a different way. We can get stuck in a creative rut because we are physically stuck in our offices or the local coffee shop. Go on an adventure and you’re sure to be inspired by all the new sights and sensations.

3) Quantity over quality. Start with one concept and have a brainstorm session where you write or draw anything and everything that comes to your mind in 2 minutes. There are no bad ideas at this point, it’s simply an exercise to get your creative juices flowing.

4) Channel your inner child. When you’re a kid, your imagination runs wild with fun fantasies, fictional characters and wonderful adventures. Unfortunately, as we grow up, we lose this ability to dream out loud. Spend time with the little ones in your life and play pretend. Sometimes it’s good to let go of reality and see where our brains go.

5) Create an inspiration board. With sites like Pinterest and Tumblr, it’s so easy to visualize a concept through gathered images. Besides, we all know that pinning to our “DIY” board is so much fun.

6) Don’t force it. The only rule to being creative is to do what comes naturally to you so don’t try too hard. Being creative should be fun and if you feel like you’re forcing it too much, you’re not being true to yourself.

After a day of sun, salt and sand, whip up the perfect post-surf snack: a healthy and delicious acai bowl. We let Haleiwa Bowls show us how to make the BEST acai bowl on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii and maybe even the world!

Ingredients:
2 C Total of Frozen Blueberries, Strawberries & Bananas (equal parts of each)
Sambazon Pure Acai Smoothie Pack
Splash of Milk (We love coconut or rice milk!)
Your Toppings of Choice:
Granola, Bee Pollen, Honey, Chia Seeds or Diced Fruit. Get creative!

Directions:
1) Combine the frozen fruit and Sambazon Acai in your blender. You may need to add a splash of milk to get everything moving. Turn your blender on and take breaks in between blending to stir the frozen mixture.

2) Scoop the yumminess into a bowl. Top with the granola first.

3) Then add some fresh fruit, bee pollen and finish off with a drizzle of honey.

4) Grab a spoon and enjoy on your lanai while the ocean breeze keeps you company!

Gold & Silver Bangles: Owlette Hawaii

Thanks so much to Kylie, Anna and Sam for showing us how it’s done! If you’re ever on the North Shore of Oahu, be sure to head to Haleiwa Bowls (@halewiabowls).

We believe that travel is life. We can’t stop thinking about our next adventure or dreaming of everything from exotic beaches to snow-capped mountains. We are wanderlusters. And here are 14 struggles that only we can relate to:

1) Spending your entire day at work looking at flights and getting nothing done.
2) Post-surf trip blues.
3) Losing your flip flops.
4) Drinking from a cup and not a coconut.
5) Sand. In. Everything.
6) Differentiating between foreign currencies in your wallet.
7) Jetlag.
8) Ridiculous tan lines.
9) Finding the love of your life then realizing you have to go home.
10) Being fully clothed.
11) Your tan fades and so does your happiness.
12) Washing out your beach hair.
13) Extreme FOMO from seeing other people’s vacation photos on Instagram.
14) The never ending urge to travel, explore and seek out new adventure.

4 Yoga Mantras to Improve Your Life

May 4, 2015 — by Griffin Thall

1_9b95f664-a09d-4c34-a304-ee72b2142c0f1.jpg

Sometimes our lives can get a bit hectic and it’s hard to find time to slow down. This is where a mantra can really help you focus and make the most of your down time. Mantras are chants in Sanskrit used in yoga to keep our concentration focused inwardly and quiet the distractions of the outside world. Try to take a few minutes every day to repeat these mantras quietly to yourself and help anchor your wandering mind to find some inner peace:

1) OM
The sound of the universe. It’s the first, original vibration, representing the birth, death and re-birth process. OM is a great way to begin and end a yoga or mediation practice, and also comes in handy when you just need to chill out.

2) Om Namah Shivaya
This is a great mantra to help build self-confidence, reminding us that we are all made up of divine energy and should treat ourselves accordingly.

3) Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu
This mantra is a powerful way to dedicate yourself to living a life of non-harming and being of service to the greater good. This mantra encourages cooperation, compassion and living in harmony with the environment, animals and our fellow human beings.

4) Om Shanti Shanti Shanti
The peace mantra is focused on providing peace of mind, stress relief and increasing harmony in your surroundings.

4 Ways to Make your Space your Sanctuary

April 21, 2015 — by Griffin Thall

tumblr_mjgs8bTzdU1qfc4dgo1_1280.jpg

You want to live in more than just a house. It should be a home filled with love, happiness and peace. The outside world can get pretty hectic, so here are a few ways to turn your space into a soothing sanctuary:

1) Create coziness. Find a quiet corner in your bedroom and setup a place to sit and unwind. This could be a desk with a comfy chair or a bunch of pillows and blankets laid out on a plush carpet — the more the merrier!

delicious-teenage-bedroom

2) Add your personal touch. Hang up wall prints from artists you love, frame photos of happy memories and display items that make you smile (travel souvenirs, awards, handwritten quotes).

3) Green is good. Plants are a great addition to any sanctuary. They bring the beauty of nature indoors and also freshen the air with more oxygen.

4) Indulge your senses and set the mood. Add lavender scented candles for a calm setting, vibrant artwork for inspiration or a small set of speakers to play music for any mood!
