Pura Vida’s New HQ in La Jolla, CA!

Pura Vida’s HQ has moved!

But don’t worry – we’re still in La Jolla! We’ve created a space that’s bigger, better, and the perfect destination for you to visit this summer.

Our brand new headquarters opens up to our new and improved store, where you can shop all of your Pura Vida must-haves, new arrivals, and some unreleased sneak peaks! Not only does the new PV HQ have all the bracelets, jewelry, and clutches that you need, but it’s extremely Insta-worthy due to our incredible Pura Vida mural – designed and painted by our very own graphic designer, Megan Wolfe. Don’t forget to snap a photo and grab yourself an exclusive sticker made of our mural too, which you’ll only find at the Pura Vida HQ!

Step outside of the store and into the work spaces of the creative minds of Pura Vida! You won’t find many concrete walls at the PV HQ – the exterior is strictly windows! Every desk has its own entrance to our wrap around balcony with incredible 180 degree ocean views of La Jolla Cove, Scripps Pier, and Blacks Beach.

Photos from all of our amazing #PuraVidaGoesGlobal adventures taken throughout the years are showcased throughout the office!

In the Pura Vida kitchen, you’ll find kombucha and nitro cold brew on tap to refuel the office during the day. During lunch, the PV team all comes together to hang out in the kitchen and common area to eat lunch, hang out, and challenge one another in a round of ping pong!  We pride ourselves in creating a space where everyone can gather and hang out to take a break from the regular work day.

For anyone having meetings, we have 3 areas for them to use! The Think Tank is our conference room, which is perfect for giving presentations through the TV or bigger meetings. Our 2 quiet rooms are not only beautiful, but well suited for smaller meetings, or when someone from the PV team needs to make a phone call and block out the noise.

Every desk in the office has incredible ocean views, but nothing can top our founders’ offices, with their wrap around sunset viewing and warm ocean breezes.

This is where all the behind the scenes of Pura Vida happens, and we can’t wait to see you here at the new store at our brand new PV HQ!

8 Tips For Self Care

With the holidays long behind us, getting out of that vacay mode and back into a school/work routine can add to some unwanted stress and anxiety. So we encourage you to focus a little more on you (and treat yourself!) because sometimes you just need to be selfish and indulge in some self care. Read on to discover some of our favorite self care tips to help you unwind, relax, and let go of any stress.

 

1. Get Moving!

With that new gym membership you just got for the New Year, reap some benefits other than getting that summer bod! Exercising makes you happy through the release of endorphins, while reducing the likelihood of depression. If the gym isn’t for you, we suggest getting outside and paddle boarding, going on a walk, or going for a scenic bike ride. And for those days when exercising is definitely not happening, have a mini dance party in your room! Invite your friends over, blast your favorite songs, and dance the day away!

 

2. Indulge in Some Scent Therapy

Nothing beats coming home after an exhausting day, lighting a candle, and lying down. Really, is there anything better? Okay, maybe indulging in some ice cream, but scent therapy can have some amazing benefits! Lavender is known for calming the body, reducing stress, and easing that pesky anxiety. You can never go wrong with a stress reducing candle, but we always love a good DIY to mix with our store bought candles! If you’re feeling up for it, try out our lavender and rosemary air-freshener DIY to keep your room smelling fresh and help put your mind at ease.

 

3. Technology Detox

Consider destressing with a little technology detox every day. Now we don’t mean to throw out your phone and give it up completely, but try setting aside 30 minutes right when you wake up, after work, or before bed to enjoy life screen free. You’ll likely find yourself releasing some anxiety; you may even become more productive or find yourself connecting more with others.

 

4. Talk About It!

Sometimes the best way to let out all those anxious feelings is simply by opening up and sharing what’s on your mind. Whether you talk with a good friend, a family member, or join an online support group (like the one on the ADAA’s website), it’s so important to vent about your feelings and release all the stress you’ve been piling up. Don’t think your problems don’t matter. You are important and deserve to be heard, so scream it from the rooftops if you need to! Trust us, you’ll feel a lot better.

 

5. Create an at home Spa Day

When it comes to self care, don’t forget to treat yourself! Because let’s be real, it’s been a long week, you need to destress, and the spa sounds like the perfect solution. The only issue is that spas can be expensive, so here’s our solution: invite your girls over and bring the spa to you! Try out some fun DIYs, like our DIY pore strips or DIY sugar scrub (it smells incredible, you’ll want to use it every day). Make sure to set the mood and create a calming environment with your favorite scent, some relaxing spa music, and let your mind unwind and destress with your new spa DIYs.

 

6. Meditate

One of the simplest things you can do to help yourself reduce stress and anxiety is meditation! We understand how crazy life can get, between balancing work, a social life, and exercising (seriously, there’s not enough hours in the day), but we promise you’ll benefit from taking 10 minutes out of your day just to sit and meditate. We suggest using Headspace, an app built for meditation anytime and anywhere – so feel free to destress in the morning, during work, or even before bed.

 

7. Write it Down

Remember being little and writing down every little thing that happened in your diary? Writing and journaling can be a great way to destress and unwind from an anxiety filled day and allow your mind to ease. Whether serious writing or doodling is your forte, letting your mind wander and getting creative can be a great way to let go of built up stress! Even something as simple as writing down a list of to-dos or writing down things that didn’t completely go wrong during your hectic day can help. Draw, doodle, write a novel. Whatever way your mind sways creatively will be perfect for throwing that anxiety away.

 

8. Try Something New

We get so sucked into routines – wake up, go to work, work out, go to bed – sound familiar? Don’t forget to try something new! There’s something enticing about finding a new hobby, reading a brand new book, or discovering a new trail. Finding something that can break up your normal routine can be a new outlet to relieve your stress from the day and be a great coping mechanism from anxiety. You may meet new people or discover a new skill, so go try something new that will allow you to relax and unwind – you never know what may come from it!

3 Simple Ways to Protect Our Oceans and Marine Life

Not-so-fun fact: Every minute, one garbage truck of plastic is dumped into our oceans. As if that’s not scary enough, it turns out this might have an even bigger impact on our precious marine life than we knew.

 

 

One recent study found microplastics—tiny pieces of plastic debris that come from any number of sources—in the gut of every single sea turtle examined (including more than 100 turtles from seven different species). To be exact, more than 800 plastic particles were found in these sea turtles, including everything from rubber bands, balloons and tires to cigarettes and pieces of clothing. The sea turtles often mistake these bits of pollution for food, and in some cases simply aren’t able to avoid all the debris surrounding them.

Young sea turtles are especially likely to mistake to the plastics for food, but sea turtles of all age and species are at risk, including the Pura Vida turtle, Vida, below. So sad!

 

 

Unfortunately, sea turtles aren’t the only ones being harmed by the ever-increasing amount of plastic that’s entering our oceans on a daily basis. Earlier this year, a short-fin male pilot whale died in Thailand after eating more than 17 pounds of plastic bags and packaging. And every year, millions of seabirds suffer the same fate from consuming plastic waste.

This is why it’s crucial for all of us to act right now to help protect our oceans and the marine life living within them. If we don’t, the amount of plastic in the ocean will likely increase tenfold by 2020. And by 2050, that means there would be more plastic than fish in our oceans.

 

 

But enough with the bad news; here’s the good news: We can all make a difference! Big changes start with tiny steps, including three moves you can make right now to reduce your impact and protect our marine life:

 

1. Reduce your plastic usage and waste.

  • Use a reusable cup, mug, or bottle whenever possible.
  • Avoid products with plastic microbeads.
  • BYOS – Bring your own straw!
  • Use Beeswax wraps instead of cling wrap.

2. Attend a beach cleanup

Central Park Picnic

Started off the Fall season in the best way we knew how! We took advantage of the beautiful weather and headed off to have lunch in Central Park. It doesn’t get any more picture perfect than this! With all of our favorite snacks present and lots of lemonade, we enjoyed the company of one another! Tons of laughs, polaroids taken, and popcorn fights were had. What better way to spend a cool, crisp afternoon in New York City? I think we all agreed that there truly couldn’t have been a dreamier picnic. It was straight out of a story book! We even had other people stop by to take photos of the beautiful spread!

Time spent with friends is never wasted!

#PVtakesNYC! We were so excited to get the gang together in New York City this Fall season. There are too many things to see and do. The more we explored, the more we fell in love with this iconic city. You know what they say, “A city so nice, they named it twice!” Have you ever been to New York City? Follow along as we make our way around the Manhattan and Brooklyn and check out all the places we went to!

NOTHING beats a good city view! I mean look at those sparkling lights. Are we dreaming?!

We are living for all the rooftop hangs. Check out this view from the top of the Williamsburg Hotel in Brooklyn! Are you joking? All the heart eyes for this city.

Not to mention all the yummy coffee. Because caffiene breaks are essential, am I right?

What’s your go to drink?

Did you even go to NYC if you didn’t walk across the Brooklyn Bridge?! One of our favorite landmarks we visited!

Any FRIENDS fans out there?! We took a stop to check out the apartment featured in the show. It doesn’t get more iconic than this! Everyone say cheeeese!

With school right around the corner, we have decided to share some of our favorite DIY dorm decor ideas! Make someone’s day with this adorable Free Compliment Board. Hang this board on your dorm door and start spreading the love. Let’s get started!

What You’ll Need:
1) Paper
2) Scissors
3) Pen
4) Cork Board
5) Push Pins

Step 1: Cut paper into small squares

Step 2: Write a compliment on each square piece of paper

Step 3: Pin the compliments to the cork board (we turned our compliments around so they would be a surprise)

Fall Detox Water

Just because summer is over doesn’t mean the detox stops. The unbelievable Autumn flavors will explode in your mouth when trying out this recipe. Detox waters are simple and very beneficial to our bodies. They can help boost your immune system and maximizes your energy. Take it on the go or keep it in the fridge ready for any time of day! Watch your skin clear up as well. Your body needs plenty of water and this is the perfect tasty way to do so!

Here is what you’ll need:

  1. Red apple
  2. Plum
  3. Pear
  4. Water
  5. Cinnamon sticks

Begin by chopping your fruits in prep to toss in.

Once you have sliced all three fruits, scoop up and place in pitcher.

Now, add in the cinnamon sticks!

Mix all the ingredients. Enjoy!
