Central Park Picnic

October 9, 2018 — by Chelsey Bishoff

Started off the Fall season in the best way we knew how! We took advantage of the beautiful weather and headed off to have lunch in Central Park. It doesn’t get any more picture perfect than this! With all of our favorite snacks present and lots of lemonade, we enjoyed the company of one another! Tons of laughs, polaroids taken, and popcorn fights were had. What better way to spend a cool, crisp afternoon in New York City? I think we all agreed that there truly couldn’t have been a dreamier picnic. It was straight out of a story book! We even had other people stop by to take photos of the beautiful spread!

Time spent with friends is never wasted!

What snacks would you bring to your picnic?

Gotta snap a Polaroid or it didn’t happen. amiright?

Take a look at our spread! Name something prettier. I’ll wait…

These pretzels were HUGE! They were made for sharing. And so are laughs! We encourage you to get outside with your family and friends and enjoy the new season. Happy Fall!

The New Year is a great time to start fresh and create new goals for yourself. So much opportunity and adventure to be had! However, resolutions can be hard to keep. Sometimes, we need that little extra push. We decided this year would be dedicated to traveling! So, today on the blog we will be showing you our DIY to hold us to our word. If you want something, go get it! We’re going to walk you step by step on our travel fund jar. Now, this jar doesn’t have to be a fund just for traveling, it can be whatever you have chosen to save up money for! Feel free to totally personalize this.

Supplies:

  1. Mason jar
  2. Chalk board
  3. Chalk/chalk pin
  4. Jute/string
  5. Spray paint
  6. Command strips
  7. Heart shaped cut-out

Begin by taking your mason jar and taping on the heart shaped cut out in the center. Make sure it is laying totally flat. Spray paint the entire jar. Once dried, peel off the heart cut out.

Add a heavy duty command strip to the back of the jar and to the bottom center of the chalk board.

Next, take your chalk and label the board with what you are saving up for.

Take the string and cut strands that can be tied around the top of the jar in a bow.

Use the command strips that have already been secured and attach the jar onto the chalk board.

Hosting parties is one of my all time favorite activities to do in the summer! I am so excited to share a crowd favorite mocktail for everyone to enjoy! It is the perfect combo of a float and a cocktail. This yummy mojito inspired drink will leave all your guests refreshed and coming back for seconds!

Here is what you will need:

  1. Water
  2. Club Soda
  3. Limes
  4. Lime Sherbet (softened)
  5. Sugar
  6. Mint leaves

Begin by pouring about half a cup of water into a microwave safe bowl.

Then add 3 tablespoons of sugar.

Place in microwave and heat for 4 minutes. This will create a syrup like substance.

Once it is done heating, take it out of the microwave and put your chopped up mint in with the mixture. Let it sit for 5 minutes.

While we waited we added a scoop of lime sherbet, a cup of club soda, 1/2 cup of lime juice and then topped it off with the water/mint mixture once it was ready.

Add fresh lime slices and mint leaves! Enjoy over ice!

Cut the wire as long or as short as needed.Processed with VSCO with a6 presetPut a tiny dot of glue at the top and bottom of the photo. Pull the wire tight enough so there is no slack. Afternoon Ambience

August 6, 2016 — by Chelsey Bishoff

IMG_3477.jpg

So maybe summer can’t last forever. Getting back into the swing of everyday life can be exhausting! Don’t let the hustle and bustle get the best of you. Relax and mellow out. Turn on some afternoon acoustic, burn your favorite incense, pour yourself a cup of tea. Vibe to your own rhythm.

Take a moment for yourself and do what makes you happy. Don’t clutter your mind with negativity.

Write it all out. Think good thoughts. What inspires you?

Dream it up, whatever it is that keeps your brain busy.

Never stop creating. Think bigger! Always stay inspired and most importantly, do what sets your soul on fire.

DIY Moon Phase Wall Hanging

June 23, 2016 — by Chelsey Bishoff

IMG_1513.jpg

Stay wild moon child! What gypsy wouldn’t want this hanging in their room? It makes for the most perfect, calming finishing touch to your space full of gems and wonder. We’re not sure about you guys, but we adore simple, handmade treasures to decorate with– so we just HAD to create this one. What makes it even better is that almost all the supplies can be found in your craft drawer at home! Want the in on how we did it? Come on, we’ll take you step by step– Follow us!!

What you’ll need:

1) Thin cardboard (we used an empty cereal box)

2) Jute or any sort of string you prefer

3) Scissors, tape and pencil

4) Silver or gold paint along with a paint brush

5) A small rock or heavy bead

6) A twig

Get Started:

Step 1:

Start by using your pencil to draw two circles. You may want to use a household item to trace around to form a perfect circle. (We used the base of a candle.)

After you have both circles, you will draw two crescent moons. (If you need to trace thats okay, too. There aren’t any rules to this game… phew!)

Lastly, you will draw the main crescent that will be placed in the middle. This one will have a deeper arch, resembling the letter“C.”

Step 2:

One by one paint each moon. We used silver as the main base coat. After that dried, we went in on top of it and added some gold glitter so it would shine just a bit. But you can do whatever you like.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

Step 3:

After allowing the paint to fully dry, tape the jute onto the backs of the cardboard cutouts in correct order to create the phases of the moon! (As shown in the photo below) Make sure to also leave a good bit of leftover jute at the top and bottom.

Step 4:

Tie the rock or bead to the bottom of the jute. This will weigh it down just enough to keep the jute totally straight.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

Step 5:

Take the moon phase wall hanging and tie it in the middle of the twig.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

After that’s tied, take another strand of jute to create the hanger.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

Hooray! Now you have a beautiful new piece for your room that cost you close to nothing and took no time! How’s that for a fun DIY? Thanks for checking in on all the neat crafts going on here at Pura Vida. Stay tuned for our next post!

8 Reasons Why Being 20-Something is Awesome

February 22, 2015 — by Griffin Thall

20Something2_e95a11ba-f548-4427-85f8-fd0e929f9a0e1.jpg

Our 20s can either be some of the greatest or toughest times in our lives, so here are some reminders why living through this decade is the best.

1. We have our own style.

Over the years, we’ve fine-tuned our personal style and can distinguish between what looks good on us and what just looks plain whack.

2. We know who we are.
We have our own opinions and aren’t afraid to voice them. We no longer have to try and fit in like a chameleon, but instead are confident in our own skin and strive to be different and unique.

3. We can spend money on fun things.
We now earn some decent coin and can spend it at our heart’s content. Spa treatments, ridiculously priced clothes, personal training, international vacations, the list of luxury never ends.

4. We have drafted an all-star lineup of friends.
The friends we have today will probably be the ones we have for the rest of our lives. We recognize what a meaningful relationship is and cherish the ones around us way more than we used to.

5. We are educated, beautiful and street smart.
We’re eloquent, business-savvy, critically aware of news, politics and pop culture. Not to mention that we are still in the prime of our youth. Move over Beyoncé!

6. We take care of our bodies and it shows.
We go to the gym, drink green smoothies, stopped eating McDonald’s every day and now treat our bodies as sacred temples. Living a long, happy life is our priority and we realize the importance of health at a young age.

7. We have direction, but there is still opportunity to grow.
We’re up for that awesome promotion and are able to finally advance our careers. Re-locate to Europe? No problem. Quit the office job and become a helicopter pilot? Do it.

8. This is the start of our real life.
This is our chance to sit down and really think about our career, where we want to create a life and what kind of person we want to be. The beauty of it all is that we have complete control over what happens.

So dream big, live free, have fun, do what makes you happy and pursue your passion because at the end of the day only you can decide your future. Share this post if you agree!

The Takeaway: What We Can Learn from the Beach

February 20, 2015 — by Griffin Thall

Beach-Header1.jpg

The beach is my place of solace. It’s always there, welcoming me with open arms, ready to kiss me with the sun and float my worries away. There is so much we can learn from Mother Nature and a sandy shore is my perfect idea of school.

Play in the sand.
Have fun. Be silly. Get dirty. Run around. Build sand castles and dream out loud. We all work so hard at working, but how hard do we work at playing?

Cherish every sunset.
Be present. Let go of the past and stop worrying about the future. Be thankful you’re alive. Watch the sunset and hold onto every minute. It doesn’t matter what happened or what will happen. All that matters is what’s happening right now.

When life gives you waves learn how to surf.
The seas get rough and waves come rolling in, which can completely turn our lives upside down. The only thing we can do is gather strength, stand tall and confidently ride it out until we conquer those waves. Everything always works out and all we can do is go with the flow and make the best of it.

The only thing certain in life is the rise and fall of the sun.
Change is constant. We’re thrown curveballs unexpectedly and things are unpredictable. But what we can trust is that a new day is always on the horizon and with every sunrise there’s hope for greatness.

Share this if you want to go to the beach!

What does Pura Vida Mean?

September 22, 2014 — by Griffin Thall

251880_10151916290600082_169476471_n1-633x391.jpg
A phrase that you will hear and see everywhere in Costa Rica is “Pura Vida”. The term “Pura Vida” has been present in Costa Rica’s vocabulary for over 50 years. It’s English translation means “pure life”  or “simple life”, however its more then just a phrase- it is a way of life.
Where did this phrase originally come from? People believe that the term “Pura Vida” came around in 1956 after a Mexican movie entitled “Pura Vida!” was released. In the movie, the main character uses the phrase throughout the movie to stay optimistic, happy, and full of life, despite all the negative circumstances around him. Thanks to this movie, the phrase “Pura Vida” is the unofficial motto to one of the happiest countries on Earth.
Pura Vida is so much more then just a phrase, it is their culture and way of life. Costa Ricans (Ticos) use this term to say hello, goodbye, or even to let people know everything’s good! Costa Ricans don’t just let the term bring them a good life, it’s the way they use it in their everyday attitude to make them happy. “Pura Vida” means that people need to be grateful for the things they do have in life, instead of dwelling on the negative things that they don’t. The phrase shows that no matter how bad you may think you have it, life for someone else can be far more less fortunate then your own. Life is too short to be worried and upset, everyone needed to make the most of life! All in all, the locals strive to live a stress free, laid-back life and they believe that their motto “Pura Vida” perfectly exemplifies how the locals live. Costa Ricans feel that if more “foreigners” grasped this concept, the world would be a lot happier.
“Pura Vida” is the back bone to this company. We believe in a pure and happy life, and that our company and products can bring that to many people around the world. Our products can make a big impact in customers lives, whether its helping their favorite charity, or creating their own bracelet and being a voice behind our brand. Pura Vida can help you find your pure life. ¡Pura Vida!

– William G.T. Shedd It isn’t strange that we are most comfortable at home where we feel safest, but the whole point of existence is to get out and experience life. As beings, we aren’t meant to stay in one place for too long. We were given the ability to run, jump, skip, and dance to do just that. Get out and live your life and turn every day into an adventure.
