DIY Moon Phase Wall Hanging

June 23, 2016 — by Chelsey Bishoff

IMG_1513.jpg

Stay wild moon child! What gypsy wouldn’t want this hanging in their room? It makes for the most perfect, calming finishing touch to your space full of gems and wonder. We’re not sure about you guys, but we adore simple, handmade treasures to decorate with– so we just HAD to create this one. What makes it even better is that almost all the supplies can be found in your craft drawer at home! Want the in on how we did it? Come on, we’ll take you step by step– Follow us!!

What you’ll need:

1) Thin cardboard (we used an empty cereal box)

2) Jute or any sort of string you prefer

3) Scissors, tape and pencil

4) Silver or gold paint along with a paint brush

5) A small rock or heavy bead

6) A twig

Get Started:

Step 1:

Start by using your pencil to draw two circles. You may want to use a household item to trace around to form a perfect circle. (We used the base of a candle.)

After you have both circles, you will draw two crescent moons. (If you need to trace thats okay, too. There aren’t any rules to this game… phew!)

Lastly, you will draw the main crescent that will be placed in the middle. This one will have a deeper arch, resembling the letter“C.”

Step 2:

One by one paint each moon. We used silver as the main base coat. After that dried, we went in on top of it and added some gold glitter so it would shine just a bit. But you can do whatever you like.

Step 3:

After allowing the paint to fully dry, tape the jute onto the backs of the cardboard cutouts in correct order to create the phases of the moon! (As shown in the photo below) Make sure to also leave a good bit of leftover jute at the top and bottom.

Step 4:

Tie the rock or bead to the bottom of the jute. This will weigh it down just enough to keep the jute totally straight.

Step 5:

Take the moon phase wall hanging and tie it in the middle of the twig.

After that’s tied, take another strand of jute to create the hanger.

Hooray! Now you have a beautiful new piece for your room that cost you close to nothing and took no time! How’s that for a fun DIY? Thanks for checking in on all the neat crafts going on here at Pura Vida. Stay tuned for our next post!

Soak Up The Sun

Soak up the sun this summer in Pura Vida!  We love these bright and flirty styles!

“These were taken at Cardiff near the cliffs.  It’s one of my favorite spots for all things fun in the sun!  I wanted the photos to be beachy, playful, and care-free especially for a SoCal summer.  I just happened to stumble across the purple flowers.  The color was so rad and insanely vibrant!  I’m actually the model in these photos.  They were done for my blog Braided Bliss; fashion blog featuring causes and organizations to help raise awareness.” – Ansley

Dreaming of this vibrant city and all the excitement it holds. Located in the south-east corner of Australia, this thriving city is filled with quaint coffee shops, unique restaurants, chic fashion, and of course beautiful beaches. While it’s still a fairly young city, there’s loads of potential for exciting new neighborhoods and eclectic nightlife and oh boy, is it growing!

While they might be going extinct, there are a few bookstores that are just too beautiful to be forgotten. They’re spectacular in design, rich in history, and marvelous in all that is to be discovered! The convenience of Amazon and nooks are nice but these bookstores are worth leaving the country for. Take a gander at the worlds most grandiose bookstores and all the wonderful labyrinths they hold.

1. El Ateneo in Buenos Aires, Argentina

2. Selexyz Bookstore in Maastricht, Holland

3. Barts Books in Ojai, California, USA

4. Livraria Lello in Porto, Portugal

5. Barter Books in Alnwick, United Kingdom

Because when you are kind, your heart becomes full. When you come from a place of non-judgment, love, peace, and compassion, your relationship with yourself and others becomes extraordinary! It’s a simple act that can change the world, and takes no extra energy. The kindness you exert comes back around to you. Three simple acts of kindness you can do today include:
1. Smiling at complete strangers and wish them a good morning or ask how they’re doing.
2. Offer to return a shopping cart for someone who is leaving as you are going towards the entrance of a store.
3. Make specific compliments to friends and family (or even a stranger).

Blueberry Kiwi Spritz

June 5, 2014 — by Griffin Thall

kiwi_drink_blueberry1.jpg

It’s summer time and the livings easy! And now with this blueberry kiwi drink you’ll stay refreshed on those long warm sunny days. Here’s how:

Ingredients:
12 blueberries
1 peeled & sliced kiwi
¼ cup of water
2 cans of lime La Croix
2 teaspoons of agave nectar

First, grab a small sauce pan to heat your water, and add the fruit and agave until it starts to boil. Lightly smash your fruit as the water starts to heat up, this allows all the juices to seep out into the water and creates a juicy syrup. When the liquid turns to a dark pink and starts to boil, remove the pan from the heat and pour over a strainer into a container. Pour a cup of iced La Croix into a glass (you can use any flavored sparkling water), and then fill the cup to the top with the liquid you just made. Add a slice of kiwi on top and viola! You have a not too sweet but mostly refreshing drink perfect for summer. Enjoy!
