Reach Higher with Anna Lengstrand

September 7, 2015 — by Griffin Thall

Sometimes it’s good to feel small. When you’re amongst the majesty of the mountains, it really puts things into perspective. We spent some time with our friend Anna while keeping our heads in the clouds and feet on the ground.

“Life in Whistler is filled with exploration. My boyfriend and I set up camp in Brandywine Meadows and then scrambled up to the summit before lunch the next day. Wow, these mountain tops definitely make you feel blessed to be alive. A simple, peaceful, happy and free life is all we really need.”

Thanks Anna for hanging out with us! Check out her Instagram and website for more beautiful photography.

How To Make Your Next Vacation Life-Changing

August 31, 2015 — by Griffin Thall

Sometimes we can get stuck in a vacation rut. Here are some tips to make your next trip one you’ll never forget!

1) Travel by yourself. Go on a solo trip and we promise you’ll learn so many new and different things not only about the place you’re exploring, but also about yourself.

2) Travel with a tour group. With popular travel tour groups like Life Before Work, booking your next vacation with a group is a great way to travel with like-minded people within your age range. You are guaranteed to make awesome friends and experience unique adventures in exciting destinations all while using the buddy system. Stay safe!

3) Stay at a local’s house. Skip the expensive hotels and live like a local by booking your accommodations using sites like Airbnb, HomeAway or FlipKey. These sites also offer up a fun variety of housing options including apartments, houses, mansions, houseboats, tree houses and yachts!

4) Talk to the locals. Sure, it’s great to do some pre-trip Internet research on the best beaches, restaurants and activities, but there’s nothing as authentic as local knowledge. When you’re grabbing your morning coffee, politely ask the barista where to go and what to see. Or maybe that cute waiter can guide you in the right direction of the most beautiful secluded beach on the island. This way, you’re guaranteed a whole different kind of trip better than one you could ever read about on some website.

5) Take a hike. No matter where you are in the world, your best mode of transportation are your two legs. Grab a map and do some research on some easy day hikes. You’ll find that time slows down, the air becomes fresher and BONUS hiking is a free work out. Woo! More room for dessert.

6) Splurge on one excursion. Helicopter ride along the Nā Pali Coast? Sure. Cage diving with sharks in Australia? Yep! Watching baby turtles hatch in Costa Rica? Sign me up. Pick out one epic thing to do on your trip to really make it worth it cuz #yolo. When else will you back at your destination any time soon anyway?

Tips: Make your Pura Vida Bracelets Last

August 24, 2015 — by Griffin Thall

All of our bracelets are made by hand, 100% waterproof and can stand up to all of your outdoor adventures. Here are some tips to help your Pura Vida last a lifetime:

1) Store them in a pouch to prevent them from tangling with your other accessories.

2) If you’re headed to the beach, our strictly string bracelets (Braided / Flat Braided / Original / Solid) are best suited for the salty water. If you do take an ocean dip with our beaded or metal bracelets, simply give them a good rinse while you wash the sand off your feet.

3) Since our bracelets are easily adjustable, size them down to fit your wrist perfectly so they’re not too loose and don’t catch on anything.

4) Don’t cut the extra string that hangs off the end of your Pura Vida. Those knots ensure the bracelet stays put along with the wax coating on all of our string.

Summer Fruit Water

August 19, 2015 — by Griffin Thall

Stay hydrated in those sizzling summer heat waves with our refreshingly simple fruit-infused water.

Watermelon, diced into chunks
Water or Soda Water
Portable Drinking Container (We love this leakproof Made by Fressko flask, which comes with a handy infuser, perfect for fruit or tea.)

Add the cut up watermelon, mint leaves and ice to your portable drinking container. Fill with water. Easy peasy. Now, drink up buttercup and go seize the day!

Top 10 Benefits of Drinking Water

1) Increases Energy & Relieves Fatigue – Since your brain is mostly water, drinking it helps you think, focus and concentrate better and be more alert. As an added bonus, your energy levels are also boosted!

2) Promotes Weight Loss – Removes by-products of fat, reduces eating intake (by filling up your tummy if consumed prior to meals), reduces hunger (hello natural appetite suppressant!), raises your metabolism and has zero calories!

3) Flushes Out Toxins – Gets rid of waste through sweat and urination which reduces the risk of kidney stones and UTI’s (urinary tract infections).

4) Improves Skin Complexion – Moisturizes your skin, keeps it fresh, soft, glowing and smooth. Gets rid of wrinkles. It’s the best anti-aging treatment around!

5) Maintains Regularity – Aids in digestion as water is essential to digest your food and prevents constipation.

6) Boosts Immune System – A water guzzler is less likely to get sick. And who wouldn’t rather feel healthy the majority of the time? Drinking plenty of water helps fight against flu, cancer and other ailments like heart attacks.

7) Natural Headache Remedy – Helps relieve and prevent headaches (migraines & back pains too!) which are commonly caused by dehydration.

8) Prevents Cramps & Sprains – Proper hydration helps keep joints lubricated and muscles more elastic so joint pain is less likely.

9) Puts You in a Good Mood – When the body is functioning at its best, you will feel great and be happy!

10) Save Money! – Water is FREE! Even if you choose bottled/filtered water, it’s STILL cheaper than that high sugar and fat-filled latte!

Did you know? Watermelon is a fruit AND a vegetable. It’s also 91% water, so it’s super hydrating and good for you. Chill slices in the fridge for a cool summer treat!

Sunshine Party Snacks

August 18, 2015 — by Griffin Thall

It’s sunny with a chance of sprinkles! But these are the yummy kind of sprinkles. “Weather” you’re looking to decorate a one-year-old’s birthday party, planning a baby shower or just looking for some sweet and salty treats, Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods, Pink Pineapple Punch and Birthday Cake Popcorn are easy-to-make treats!

Here are a few fun recipes for the perfect sunshine birthday party:

Chocolate Dipped Pretzels with Sprinkles

1 12-ounce package milk chocolate chips
1 12-ounce package white chocolate chips
24 large pretzel rods
Pink sprinkles

1) Place the milk chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and the white chocolate chips in another (if you are making both kinds of chocolate). Microwave one bowl on 50% for 1 minute. Remove and stir with a rubber spatula (the chips should melt while you are stirring, but if they don’t, you can continue to microwave for 30 more seconds on high, then stir again.) Continue with 30 second intervals on high to get it to a nice smooth and melted consistency. Wash and dry the spatula. Do the same with the other bowl of chocolate.

2) Dip one pretzel rod into the milk chocolate; use a spoon or butter knife to spread the chocolate about halfway up the rod (we used a tall glass to dip the long pretzels). Twist the rod to let the excess chocolate drip off. Hold the rod over a piece of wax paper and shake sprinkles on all sides. Place the pretzel on another piece of wax paper to dry. Coat another pretzel with white chocolate and sprinkles. Repeat until you’ve coated all the pretzels, half with milk chocolate, half with white chocolate, and let dry completely, about 24 hours. Cover any remaining chocolate with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator.

3) Enjoy with some of our Pink Pineapple Punch. Read along for the recipe!

Pink Pineapple Punch

Your favorite Powdered Pink Lemonade
2 cups Pineapple Juice
2 cups Ginger Ale
1/4 cup grenadine (I used cherry juice)

1) Fill a large pitcher with ice and pour in pineapple juice and grenadine. Fill the pink lemonade mix to the 1qt line (about 1/3 cup), add to the pineapple juice and stir until dissolved. Add the ginger ale and mix gently. Add water to fill up the large pitcher. Garnish the pitcher with sliced lemons, pineapples and/or cherries.

2) Serve with fun straws and sip on some sunshine!

Birthday Cake Popcorn

5 cups popped corn
1 (1 1/2 ounce) white chocolate candy melts
1 tablespoon butter, melted
Salt, to taste
1/4 cup rainbow-colored coarse sparkling sugar
2 tablespoons pearl decoratifs

1) Place popcorn on two large cookie sheets lined with parchment or a baking mat. Gently heat the white chocolate in the microwave for one minute or until melted, stirring halfway though. Stir in the melted butter. Drizzle over the popcorn and mix with a spatula to coat; be careful, it will be very hot. Toss in the salt and sprinkles. Let cool completely, then break apart any large pieces that are stuck together.

Enjoy these party-planning recipes. Always remember to spread the sunshine wherever you go 🙂 Thanks for the yummy recipes and photos Cara (@carakuulei)! Birthday party decor by Michelle Vallembois.

Meet our Featured Reps

August 11, 2015 — by Griffin Thall

Get to know some of our favorite Pura Vida reps from all across the world. With over 6,500 dedicated, passionate and inspiring reps, we’re excited for you to meet some of them!

Find out more about our Rep Program

Campus-reps 1

What is your name and where are you from?
My name is Maricruz Esquivel and I am from Anaheim, California! What do you like most about being a Pura Vida Rep?
I love letting people who know nothing about Pura Vida what it’s all about. Being a rep is a great opportunity to interact with new people, while also being able to support my favorite brand. How did you first hear about Pura Vida Bracelets?
I first saw them on Instagram, I never wore bracelets daily and now I do!

What advice would you give to other reps on how to be successful in the Campus Rep Program?
I think it’s important to focus better on people who don’t know about the company rather than those who do. There are plenty of people out there who don’t know PuraVida yet and would love to know about it. There is always people who will just see the bracelets and ask about them! They are really easy to sell and even better once they’re told more about how the bracelets give back to the community. It’s better to spread the word rather than circulate, that way more people will know about Pura Vida bracelets.

What made you want to be a Pura Vida Rep?
I love how Pura Vida is all about giving back, I think it’s amazing how many charities they support! I love what I’m supporting and it motivates me even more to spread the word around to everyone.

If you were a Pura Vida Bracelet, which one would you be?
Beach life! I enjoy being outdoors and I could literally be at the beach everyday!

What is your name and where are you from?
My name is Julia Howe and I’m from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada!

What do you like most about being a Pura Vida Rep?
I love being able to share my passion for Pura Vida! Especially with fellow Canadians, as many people here are still not aware these bracelets exist and I’ve yet to hear someone say they don’t like them! Being able to offer people a discount, show them my bracelets and generate an interest for them is a great feeling! It’s nice when you’re able to be the one to introduce people to a great product, especially when it’s for a great cause.

How did you first hear about Pura Vida Bracelets?
I’m slightly embarrassed to say that I first saw them on the wrist of a past Bachelor contestant that I followed on Instagram. I immediately fell in love with them and must have looked through the website every day for a 6 month period before I finally made my first order – and I’ve been hooked ever since!

What advice would you give to other reps on how to be successful in the Rep Program?
My biggest piece of advice would be to be original! There are so many reps, especially on social media, that you have to differentiate yourself. In terms of social media, don’t just repost what everyone else is putting out there or comment your rep code on every single photo that pops up. Look for unique material, take your own pictures, reach out to any audience you can, answer questions and have a presence. I try to do a post each day so that Pura Vida is constantly on the mind of my followers. Share your discount with friends, with family, at work.. If you get one more person interested, they are now passing on that interest to their friends and family!

What made you want to be a Pura Vida Rep?
Who wouldn’t want to be a Pura Vida Rep?! My passion for these amazing bracelets and the amazing products! I love them, love the cause, love the charities Pura Vida supports. It is a privilege to be able to represent a brand you truly love and believe in! I would have been spreading the word about the company whether I was a rep or not, so I was more than happy to make it official 🙂

If you were a Pura Vida Bracelet, which one would you be?
I would say the Silver Feather Dark Grey. I like to keep things simple and love versatile jewellery that I can wear with many outfits, and dress up or down. I love that feathers symbolize the ability to move freely in life. Plus the bracelet is one of my favourites!
